The City of Sterling Heights does not endorse or support any sale posted on these pages.
Recurring or continual garage sales (i.e., every weekend) are not permitted. Residents are encouraged to have no more than 2 per year.

Garage Sale Signs

Garage sale signs (and all other signs) are not permitted to be posted in the public right of way (between the street and the sidewalk). Do not attach signs to utility poles or sign posts. City Code 48-4A reminds garage sale shoppers: When visiting these garage sales, please be courteous and do not block driveways and mail boxes.

Books & Donations

Don't throw out the books that don't sell at your garage sale! The Friends of the Public Library accepts donations of books, magazines less than 1 year old, DVDs, videos, CDs and audio cassettes for the Used, But Sterling bookstore. A receipt can be provided to acknowledge the donation.

Garage Sale Notice Guidelines

Any person or organization that wishes to have a garage/yard sale posted on the City of Sterling Heights' official Web site shall be subject to the following rules and regulations:
  1. The Sterling Heights website will not be available for advertising of in-home business, homes/property for sale, political fundraisers, or special interest groups.
  2. Garage Sale notices must be provided to the Community Relations Department, for content review, at least 1 week prior to requested posted dates. The City reserves the right to edit, remove or reject any submitted message request.
  3. There will be a limit of 2 garage sale message requests per year per household. Each sale must not exceed 2 consecutive days. One garage sale is counted as consecutive days. Therefore, a notice containing 2 sale dates with non-sale days in between will be counted as 2 garage sale message requests. If garage sale dates are moved because of weather on the planned date, the resubmission with the new date will be counted as a second garage sale message request.
  4. Requested messages may be edited for quality.
  5. A contact person, address and phone number must be provided with all requested messages. Specific dates and times for starting and stopping the sale must be included.
