Job Title:                District Court Probation Officer
Department:           41-A District Court (Sterling Heights)
Job Type:               TEMPORARY Medical Leave Coverage (approximately 12 weeks, July - October 2019)
Anticipated Salary: $24.72/hr

The 41-A District Court is in need of a TEMPORARY District Court Probation Officer to cover a period of time between July 2019 and October 2019. Job duties will be similar to a full-time Officer, and may include but are not limited to: meeting with misdemeanor offenders on a regular basis to monitor their compliance with conditions imposed by the Court; to interview defendants, both in custody and from the community, prior to sentencing and offer sentencing recommendations to the Court; to represent the Probation Department in all Probation Violation Hearings and other related matters; to speak with local District and Circuit Court Probation Departments to coordinate supervision terms; to maintain regular communication with testing agencies, counseling facilities, etc.; and to carry out any other job-related duties as directed by the Chief Probation Officer, Judges, or Court Administrator. 

The position is flexible with time; courthouse hours are Monday - Friday, 8:30 to 4:30, but we may be able to accomodate a part time schedule if needed. 

Required Education and Experience
Minimum Qualifications: Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree from an Accredited University, with a background in psychology, criminal justice, or related field preferred. 
Skills in interviewing, case management, report writing, and investigation are required. Previous experience preferred. Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision is required. 

Preferred skills: Strong writing skills preferred. The possession of the MAFE accreditation is preferred but not required for this TEMPORARY position.  

Additional Requirements and Information
All applicants must pass a background investigation to be considered for employment with the 41-A District Court. An applicant must be at least eighteen (18) years of age at time of employment as a Probation Officer. An applicant must be able to pass a post-job-offer medical exam, drug screen, and physical fitness test.
