Field Trips
There is no better classroom than the outdoors! Field trips run year round and can be booked up to one year in advance. Field trips are available Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday starting as early as 9 a.m.
Please call 586-446-2710 (Ext. 0) to speak with a naturalist or to schedule a field trip.
Preschool Field Trips: Introduce your little ones to the wonderful world of animals and plants of Michigan. The programs allow our youngest visitors to see and touch animals and plants in order to fully experience the environment and expand their knowledge of the natural world. Activities include exploration of our inside exhibit room which houses native Michigan amphibians, reptiles, numerous stuffed taxidermy birds and mammals and a 900 gallon fresh water aquarium. The field trip also includes a LIVE animal presentation, and a hike lasting about half an hour outside; please dress for the weather.
Kindergarten thru 6th grade: Field Trips, Homeschoolers, Senior Citizen groups and other Recreation groups: Provide your students or group with a broad background covering the ecosystems that exist in southeastern Michigan. Activities include a hike* in our wooded backyard, a visit to our exhibit room which houses various animals native to Michigan, a LIVE animal presentation and the movie “Worlds Alive”, which is a remarkable film covering the animal kingdom.

Outreach Programs
If you can’t visit us, we can still help! The Sterling Heights Nature Center has three different outreach programs that will be presented in a classroom setting (not an assembly).
