About the Plan
The Planning Commission is required by State-enabling legislation to prepare and
adopt a Master Land Use Plan as set forth in the Michigan Planning
Enabling Act, Public Act 33 of 2008. Planning provides the technical and
professional assistance necessary for the creation of the plan,
including any successive amendments.
As master land use plans
generally entail a long range planning projection of between 15 to 20
years, continual review and maintenance is required by both the Planning
Commission and Office of Planning. The Master Land Use Plan guides the
physical development of the City as it relates to uses of land, public
and quasi-public facilities, transportation systems, and utilities.
