Witnesses

Any person who testifies at a court hearing is a witness. You may have seen an accident, witnessed a crime or you may be asked to describe the character of someone you know.

Subpoena Witness

If you have been subpoenaed, the subpoena will advise you of the date, time, and place to appear. You must obey the subpoena or you may face legal penalties.

Pay Rates

As a subpoenaed witness, you will be paid for your appearance at the rate of:

• $12 per full day
• $6 per half day
• Plus mileage at the rate of $ .10 per mile from your home to the court

Payment will be mailed to your home either by the City of Sterling Heights or Macomb County. Please allow 4 - 6 weeks for payment.

Witness Tips

As a witness, it is best to remember a few things:

• Stay calm
• Appear on time
• Answer only the question being asked
• Do not guess
• Most importantly: tell the truth
