Alert Network

The Sterling Heights Police Department is launching a new way to alert residents about public safety issues and to receive anonymous tips from the community.

The Sterling Heights Alert Network through Citizen Observer is a new interactive way to keep residents informed of police alerts through opt-in email, text message and the Web.  Subscribers to the alert system will receive updates from the department as they are posted. They can opt to receive neighborhood only alerts or citywide notices. This is a free subscription service.

Subscribe to Alerts
Sterling Heights police will also use this system to alert subscribers to emergencies in the city such as road closures or declared snow emergencies. Visit the tip411 website to subscribe to the Sterling Heights Alert Network.

Tip Line
Also through the Alert Network, the public will be able to leave anonymous tips for the Sterling Heights police via text messaging.  While this is not a replacement for dialing 911 in an emergency, this technology, known as tip411, will allow interested persons to communicate potentially helpful information.

To access the Sterling Heights tip line, text 847411 (tip411) then type your tip.  The first line of the text must read SHPolice to direct your message to the Sterling Heights PoliceDepartment. Your tip should start on the next line. When the police receive the message, they can respond to the tipster who will continue to remain anonymous.

Safest City in Michigan
The City of Sterling Heights was recently named the safest large (population over 100,000) city in Michigan by CQ Press. Sterling Heights Police Chief Mike Reese pointed out that innovative programs, such as the Sterling Heights Alert Network, help to maintain community safety. “The Sterling Heights Alert Network will enable us to form a strong partnership with the businesses and residents to keep Sterling Heights a safe city,” he said.
