In the past six months, the Building Department has issued certificates of occupancy for many new retail businesses within the City of Sterling Heights.  On the west side of the city located on Metro Parkway and Dequindre, there is a new Starbucks, two cell phone stores and a Penn Station Sub Shop.  In addition to those new businesses, there is also a new NKD Pizzeria that is near completion.  In the same area but to the East, there is another multi-tenant building constructed that has obtained permits to construct a new Tubby Sub Shop and a Great Clips hair cutting shop.  In the Northeast section of the city, Lakeside Mall has also seen quite a bit of activity.  Most recently Jeepers has opened up and is located in the JCPenney Corridor that took up 24,000 square feet of space that was mostly vacant.  Two additional retail stores have also opened.  They are: Torrid which is a clothing store, and FYE which sells games and videos.  Currently we are working with the mall management to get 1000 Degree Pizza permit application approved for construction.   There have been three new buildings that are either near completion or have already been completed on Hall Road west of Hayes.  Some of the spaces have already been occupied by a new Panda Express and Sleep Number Bed store.  In addition to those new businesses, we have reviewed and approved permit applications for additional tenants at this location.   They include Vision Works, Jersey Mikes Sub Shop, Supercuts Hair Salon and Pie Five Restaurant.  In a vacant building on Moravian and 15 Mile where Big Boy’s Restaurant once was located is a new business called Johnny Black’s Restaurant.  This building went through a complete renovation and the end result has made that location very attractive.

Other locations that have seen completion more than six months ago include Ashtaar Restaurant located at 15 Mile and Ryan, and Dream Market, located in the same strip mall that was once occupied by Kroger Supermarket.  Leo’s Coney Island has reoccupied the closed Don Pablo’s on Van Dyke and 14 Mile Road.  Srodek Market on Mound has submitted plans to fill the last vacant space at their site and expect to resume work this spring.

Currently we have a wide variety of new multi-tenant retail buildings being constructed.   In the middle of the city located on Van Dyke, south of Metropolitan Parkway, two new buildings are being proposed.  One of the buildings is currently under construction and it will be the location of Dickey’s BBQ, which is a carry out restaurant.
