New Industrial Park and Jobs Coming to Sterling Heights
The Sterling Heights City Council made several exciting approvals at their October 4
th meeting resulting in new investments and jobs for the area. Over the last 5 years, over $4 billion has been invested in Sterling Heights with a total of nearly 5,000 new jobs created proving that it has become a hot bed for component manufacturing, machining, design engineering, and prototyping.
Sterling Heights Assembly Plant: 700 New Jobs Added
The production of the Ram 1500, beginning shortly, will bring 700 new jobs to Sterling Heights. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles US (FCA), announced these new jobs on July 26th, 2016. The project for the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant (SHAP), is a $1.48 billion investment and is set to begin in 2018. Since 2011, FCA US has invested almost $3 billion into Sterling Heights. Mitchell Plastics: First Tenant in Sterling Enterprise Park
Mitchell Plastics (Ultra Manufacturing) is adding a 200,000 square-foot manufacturing facility in Sterling Enterprise Park. Mitchell Plastics will be the first tenant in Sterling Enterprise Park, a new state-of-the-art facility. This will also bring in businesses and contracts that support OEM customers. The manufacturer will be creating 122 new jobs at its Sterling Heights location. Read More
Acument: Expanding their Sterling Heights Location
Acument, headquartered in Sterling Heights, is a manufacturer of bolts, screws, and other fastener solutions. It is going to add an automated heat treat line to its Sterling Heights location. To do so, it will be adding a 4,700 square foot addition and one to two jobs. For this addition, Acument will invest $3,068,053.
Sterling Enterprise Park: Bringing More Industrial Businesses
The new industrial park that is being built in Sterling Heights will be 144 acres and will be a state-of-the-art advanced manufacturing site. The location is at 17 Mile Road and Van Dyke, formerly the Sunnybrook Golf Course. It will offer rail access, be zoned industrial and it have build-to-suit opportunities for the buildings that will be two acres and up. This will be the largest development in Sterling Heights since the Lakeside Mall was built in 1976. The new industrial park will help bring more jobs to the area, affect sector productivity positively, and help with the region’s economic tax base. Read More

The industrial market in Sterling Heights is at a record level of lease asking prices of $5.52 per square foot, exceeding the 5-year average. What makes the Sterling Enterprise Park project even more important for the community’s growth can be summed by the 0.6% industrial vacancy rate (Costar.Com). Sterling Heights is a blend of engineering and manufacturing companies. Large engineering based employers include General Dynamics Land Systems, BAE Systems, Key Safety Systems, and KUKA North America. Large manufacturing employers include FCA, Ford, Mayco Plastics, and Faurecia.
