In 2011, BAE Systems Land and Armaments L.P. opened its Center of Excellence on Van Dyke Ave in Sterling Heights, Michigan. This state of the art technical facility represented an approximate $26,000,000 real property investment with a 2014 taxable value of $13,270,800.
BAE Systems is now undertaking an $11,654,875 investment to build a stand-alone 12,800 square foot facility to expand its testing and research capability at the ground vehicle Center of Excellence located at 34201 Van Dyke Ave. In anticipation of an increase in business, and to realize cost savings, a new dynamometer test lab is being constructed.
A dynamometer is a device for measuring force, moment of force (torque), or power. BAE Systems’ addition of a dynamometer will enhance the overall value of the Center for Excellence by increasing its technical capabilities. This is a further investment by a major corporate taxpayer and demonstrates a continuing commitment to the defense industry sector in the Sterling Heights’ economy. BAE Systems Land and Armaments L.P. continues to grow, with nearly 400 employees and counting.
The company is choosing to further invest in its Sterling Heights facilities to enhance technological capabilities and improve efficiencies. This investment will increase the capability of BAE Systems to compete in the global defense industry.
BAE Systems Land and Armaments L.P. is a wholly owned subsidiary of BAE Systems Plc, responsible for the design, development, and production of combat vehicles, ammunition, artillery systems, naval guns, and missile launchers. It was developed in 2005 following the completion of BAE Systems' acquisition of United Defense in 2004 and its merger with BAE Land Systems, and is now the largest such company in the world.
Sterling Heights is proud to be innovating business in Macomb County.
