[ARCHIVED] City to team with schools, houses of worship and service organizations for 2019 Holiday Assistance

In an effort to better assist the less fortunate families in Sterling Heights, this year the City will work directly with local schools, houses of worship and service organizations to identify families in need.

As it has done for the past 20 years, the Sterling Heights Community Relations Department will draft a master list of families needing assistance wherein interested service organizations will review the list and adopt as many families listed as possible in hopes of making the holiday season a little brighter for as many deserving families as possible.

The list of names will be shared and assistance efforts coordinated at an organizational meeting to be held in November with interested service clubs, houses of worship and non-profit organizations.

"Community leaders struggle to serve as many deserving families as they can each year with their limited resources and that is why the City is continuing to help coordinate holiday assistance efforts this year,” Community Relations Director Melanie Davis said.  “Sterling Heights has initiated this service sharing effort for decades and it is more important than ever to work together in the most efficient manner possible so we can help the greatest number of families in need.”

Dozens of businesses, organizations, schools, houses of worship and individuals participated in the program last year, providing over 450 families with food baskets, presents and gift cards.

Companies, families and individuals interested in providing holiday assistance to less fortunate Sterling Heights families are encouraged to contact Sue Giallombardo in the City’s Community Relations Department, at (586) 446-2470.
