On Thursday, Sept. 24, the Sterling Heights Police Department, Sterling Heights Rotary and Kart 2 Kart are hosting the city’s annual Alcohol Reduction Program. The event aims to reduce student alcohol use by brining 45 students together from Henry Ford II, Stevenson, Utica and Sterling Heights High Schools to educate, through presentations and discussion, on the consequences and dangers of texting and drinking while driving.

Students will simulate impaired driving by utilizing "drunk goggles" while operating go-carts at the event. They will also experience the consequences of texting while driving in various situations while riding go-carts at the event. This inter-active program is set up around high school homecoming time and start-of-the-year events to reinforce the dangers of operating while impaired, intoxicated or distracted.

The event is also sponsored by Bigby Coffee in Clinton Twp., Best Buy, Passport Pizza, E.A. Graphics in Sterling Heights, Traffic Improvement Association of Michigan, Utica & Van Dyke Towing and Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Directors.
