City Hall is beginning to see an increase in resident traffic as the Sept. 1 deadline for summer taxes nears, so the City’s Treasury Department is recommending residents pay their summer taxes, and other bills, online or by phone.
If online payment is not feasible, they recommend paying at a drop box or with a check or credit card on site. In order to process payments as quickly and safely as possible, cash payments are discouraged.
“Our staff is doing an amazing job despite the increased traffic, but considering this year’s COVID restrictions, we anticipate wait times in the coming weeks could be longer than usual,” said Finance Director Jennifer Varney. “We want to remind residents they can avoid the lines and process a contactless payment in a number of ways, even online from the safety and comfort of their home.”
Contactless payments can be made conveniently online by visiting the City’s website – www.sterling-heights.net -- and selecting the “Make Online Payment” button. Because there is a 2.8% fee collected by credit card companies when paying your bill by credit card, the City encourages residents to pay using a checking or savings account as there are no additional fees.
Residents can also process contactless payments in the following manner:
- By phone with a credit card – call (833) 819-5118.
- By mail – your payment will be considered on time as long as it is postmarked by Sept. 1.
- By drop box – one drop box is located in front of City Hall (off the Utica Road entrance), and the other is located in front of the police department. DO NOT put cash payments in any of the drop boxes.
