Sterling Heights Parks and Recreation Department announces re-opening of Community Center

In accordance with the Governor’s recent executive orders 2020-175 and 2020-176, which permits the opening of community centers for the purposes of fitness related activities, the Sterling Heights Parks and Recreation Department announces the re-opening of the Community Center to Sterling Heights residents only beginning Monday, Sept. 21.

The re-opening of the Community Center comes with specific guidelines to ensure the health and safety of our residents. Based on guidelines presented in the recent executive order, opening of the building will provide fitness and athletic programs only, and any activity deemed to be social will not be permitted at this time.

The Parks and Recreation Department has created a modified schedule of activities that provides something for everyone in order to make sure there is an opportunity for all residents to re-engage with our community’s recreational offerings.

“We are excited for the opportunity to re-open the new Community Center and start providing additional recreation opportunities to our residents,” said Sterling Heights Parks and Recreation Director Kyle Langlois. “Although we are not able to return to full capacity at this time, it’s most important to focus on providing a safe atmosphere that complies with guidelines set by the State of Michigan. We are confident we will be back to 100 percent at some point, and when that time comes, we will be ready to meet the full demand of our building’s capacity.”

The Community Center will be open Monday through Friday from 9 am – 1 pm, and from 2 - 9 pm, in addition to Saturday from 9 am – 4 pm.

Modifications will be in place in order to participate in activities and programs throughout the building. More information on the safety procedures and guidelines can be found on our website at myshpr.net/updates.
