Residents are invited to join the city of Sterling Heights for a virtual celebration held in honor of our local veterans on Nov. 11, 2020 at 11 am via Facebook Live.
Who: Sterling Heights Mayor Michael C. Taylor and members of Sterling Heights City Council, 41-A District Court Judge Stephen Sierawski, Sterling Heights Fire Chaplain Ray Ahonen, keynote speaker Randy Whitmire, president, Air Force Association – Michigan, local veterans from VFW Post 6250 and other special guests.
What: Annual Veterans Day ceremony to celebrate and acknowledge the veterans in our community and those we have lost. Those who wish to express their appreciation to these brave men and women are encouraged to join us for the ceremony on Facebook Live.
The annual event includes remarks from veterans, the national anthem sung by Sterling Heights resident Deanna Love, a 21-gun salute from the Sterling Heights Police and Fire Honor Guards and a special tribute to resident veterans we have lost this last year.
“John F. Kennedy said, ‘as we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them,’ and I think that’s what this annual ceremony is all about,” said Sterling Heights Mayor Michael Taylor. “But we must remember to demonstrate our gratitude to our veterans, not just on Nov. 11, but every day of the year for their bravery and the sacrifices they have made in the service of our country and its citizens.”
This annual ceremony is planned by local area veterans groups with the assistance of the city of Sterling Heights and the Sterling Heights Area Community Foundation.
Why: The city of Sterling Heights wishes to honor and celebrate the many veterans, past and present, who have bravely served us and their country.
When: Wednesday, Nov. 11 @ 11 am
This event is not open to the public. The public may participate via Facebook Live.
