Due to clarifications to the recent public health order issued by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, the City of Sterling Heights has announced the opening of the Dodge Park Ice Rink will be delayed until Dec. 9.
Clarifications to the order specifically state that outdoor skating rinks are not included as part of the outdoor recreation exception, and all ice rinks are to remain closed, both indoors and outdoors, regardless of occupancy or use.
“While we know this might be disappointing, we are hoping with everyone’s cooperation we can reverse the current trend of COVID-19 positive cases in our community, allowing us to re-open all our popular City amenities, including the ice rink,” said Sterling Heights Parks & Recreation Director Kyle Langlois. “Our staff is prepping everything for the ice rink now, so the minute the order is lifted, we’ll be ready to open to the public.”
