All local veterans are invited to join a celebration held in their honor at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 11 at the Sterling Heights Community Center located at 40250 Dodge Park Road.

Those who wish to express their appreciation to these brave men and women are also encouraged to attend.

41-A District Court Judge Stephen Sierawski will emcee the annual ceremony which includes remarks from veterans and Sterling Heights Mayor Michael Taylor, music from Henry Ford II High School Band and local singers, a 21-gun salute by the Sterling Heights Police Honor Guard and the symbolic laying of the wreaths and posting of colors by Veterans of Foreign Wars. This year’s keynote speaker is Veteran and Macomb County Treasurer Lawrence Rocca.

Rocca was elected to serve as Macomb County Treasurer in November 2016. Prior to his election, he was a successful Macomb County business owner for more than 30 years. His public service began in 1964 when he enlisted in the United States Navy serving aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise (CVAN 65) during the Vietnam War. In 1970, he was honorably discharged and proceeded to earn a bachelor’s degree in political science from Oakland University

The ceremony is planned by local area veterans with the assistance of the city of Sterling Heights and the Sterling Heights Area Community Foundation. A light lunch will follow the ceremony, courtesy of Utica Van Dyke Towing.
