[ARCHIVED] Nominations encouraged to recognize exceptional public service

Their contributions range from making guests welcome at city festivals, making neighborhoods SHINE, organizing youth sports leagues, to formulating zoning laws -- but no matter the scope, all are crucial to operating an efficient, cost-effective and representative municipal government. City of Sterling Heights volunteers, commissioners, board members and employees join forces in a unique way on a daily basis, styling a local government that is, not only responsive to its residents, but also crafted by its residents. The city recognizes the contributions of all who pitch in annually, and it also wants salute and pay tribute to those who are the best of city government.

In the past year have you encountered a city employee, volunteer or board or commission member who, in your opinion, went “beyond the call of duty” in serving the public? If so, Sterling Heights is seeking input to honor those individuals as outstanding nominees in city’s annual recognition program.

Nominations are being accepted for various public service awards to be presented in October. The program recognizes outstanding performance and exemplary service by board and commissioners, volunteers and full- and part-time city employees. Individuals will be recognized in six categories of service:
• “Full-Time Employee of the Year”
• “Part-Time Employee of the Year”
• “Board, Commission or Committee of the Year”
• “Board Member, Commissioner or Committee Member of the Year”
• “Volunteer of the Year”
• “Administrator of the Year”

Residents, community leaders, business professionals and city employees can submit nominations for all award categories. Nominations may be sent directly to the Community Relations Department by Friday, October 9 and can be made electronically by filling out the “City Recognition Nomination Form” located on the city’s Web site: www.sterling-heights.net.

For more information, contact Community Relations at (586) 446-CITY (2489).
