According to Public Works Director Sal Conigliaro, projects are set to be completed by the timeline, weather permitting. This year’s projects include:

19-1/2 Mile Road Reconstruction:
The City will be reconstructing 19-1/2 Mile Road between Merrill Road and Utica Road. The pavement west of the railroad will be removed and replaced with concrete while the pavement east of the railroad will be pulverized and reconstructed as an asphalt road. To enable construction, traffic will be reduced to one-way. Detours will be posted. It is anticipated the project will begin late spring/early summer of 2015 and be completed by early fall of 2015.

Van Dyke Reconstruction:
The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is in the process of reconstructing over 3 miles of M-53 (Van Dyke Avenue) from south of 15 Mile Road to 18 Mile Road. The work includes reconstructing the road, curb, and median left turns; drainage improvements; traffic signal upgrades including mast arms; sidewalk and ramp improvements to be compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA); landscape improvements; and street lighting replacement. In addition, pavement resurfacing and ADA ramp improvement work will take place from south of 14 Mile Road to south of 15 Mile Road. Road work began in February 2015 and is expected to be complete in November 2015. Median restoration and landscaping will occur in Spring/Summer of 2016. During high traffic volume hours, 6 a.m. until 8 p.m. Monday-Friday, two-lanes of traffic will be maintained in both directions. Work will occur day and night in stages with lanes shifted to limit the impact on traffic. Access will be maintained to all businesses and residents throughout the project. Pedestrian access will be maintained as well. The current street lights have been removed to accommodate the road construction and new street lights will be installed toward the end of the project. Temporary lighting has been provided at all major intersections throughout the project and the intersections will remain lit during construction. Property owners will be notified prior to curb and gutter work to remove landscaping materials and sprinklers. For more information or assistance regarding the Van Dyke Construction, contact the MDOT-Macomb/St. Clair Transportation Service Center at (586) 421-3920.

Mound Road Concrete Repairs:
The Macomb County Road Commission will continue with concrete repairs on northbound Mound Road this spring. The work will take place between 19 Mile Road and M-59. It is anticipated the work will be completed by mid-June.

2015 Local Road Concrete Reconstruction Program:
The 2015 Local Road Concrete Reconstruction Program is funded through the Safe Streets dedicated millage approved by residents in November 2013. It is anticipated the work on this contract will commence late May/early June. The work includes the concrete reconstruction of the following 11 poorly rated local streets:
• Wayne Drive
• Daventry Court
• Barrington Drive
• Irval Drive
• Austin Drive
• Arcola Drive, Cul-de-Sac to Eyebrow
• Deville Drive
• Baker Drive
• Windy Cove Court
• Diane, William to Cul de Sac
• Jerome Drive, Pemberton Drive to Metropolitan Parkway

2015 Concrete Sectional Replacement Program:
The 2015 Local Road Concrete Reconstruction Program is funded through the Safe Streets dedicated millage approved by residents in November 2013. The work included in this project includes the improvement of approximately 35 local roads through lengthy sectional replacement of deteriorated concrete panels. It is anticipated the work will commence in the spring of 2015.

15 Mile Road Resurfacing, Dequindre to Ryan Road:
The City will be asphalt resurfacing 15 Mile Road from Dequindre Road to Ryan Road beginning in the early Fall of 2015. The project is expected to be completed late Fall of 2015. The project will include resurfacing the intersection of Ryan Road along with work on pavement leading into the intersection in all directions. One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained throughout construction and it will be necessary to periodically prohibit various turning movements along the route.
