[ARCHIVED] Community Foundation partners with library, bringing the DIA mobile display to the community

The Sterling Heights Area Community Foundation and the City Library have joined together to bring the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) Mobile Away Trailer to the City on Saturday, October 22, 2016, from 10:00 a.m. through 4:00 p.m.

The DIA trailer will be located in the parking lot across from the Library main entrance.

The DIA Mobile Away Trailer is a free, mobile interactive classroom and a creative exploration space for everyone. It brings educational, hands-on art experiences to locations throughout the Tri-County Area. The DIA Mobile exhibit is a fully furnished and vibrantly designed 53’ double-expandable trailer. Inside, visitors are able to see some of the ways artists think and then have the opportunity to try out creative thinking skills at digital and hands-on stations. This is the second year the City has hosted DIA Away on campus for its residents. In October 2015, the trailer and its “Think Like an Artist” exhibit made an appearance at the Dodge Park Farmers Market.

"The Sterling Heights Area Community Foundation was established in 1991 to improve the cultural, educational and recreational opportunities for residents of Michigan's fourth largest city," said Karl G. Oskoian, the Foundation’s Executive Director. "This partnership with the City Library and the DIA provides Sterling Heights area residents a great opportunity to visit an exciting DIA display in their own backyard and discover some of the ways artists think and work. Visitors will be surprised and inspired to discover the connections between themselves and the ways artists think and work. We are very fortunate to offer this educational and cultural event to City residents and thank the DIA for sharing their exciting mobile exhibit with City residents.”
