[ARCHIVED] City expands on-demand snow removal, lawn service offerings with Lawn Guru

The City of Sterling Heights announced today it is expanding its on-demand snow removal and lawn mowing offerings by working with Michigan-based and operated “LawnGuru,” which is now available for residents to download and use

LawnGuru allows users to summon a certified contractor, pay for requested services via credit card and receive a receipt of follow-up, all from the convenience of a smartphone, tablet or desktop computer.

Throughout the past year, the City of Sterling Heights has worked diligently to research, seek and promote innovative technology its residents can utilize to help them take care of household tasks such as snow removal from the driveway and sidewalk as well as lawn care and trimming. Earlier this year, the City began conversations with Ann Arbor-based LawnGuru to bring more on-demand options to Sterling Heights residents.

LawnGuru’s on-demand service provides an option for residents who are not interested in signing up for a seasonal snow plowing or lawn mowing contract to instead order service on an as-needed basis. Last fall, the City announced a first-of-its kind municipal partnership with Plowz & Mowz, an on-demand service similar to LawnGuru. While the City is now working more closely with LawnGuru, Plowz & Mowz services are still available in Sterling Heights.

“I’m proud the City of Sterling Heights continues to seek new and innovative services for our residents to take advantage of to aid with their everyday lives,” said Mayor Michael C. Taylor. “It is our hope that by connecting residents with this top-notch technology, their lives will become easier and property maintenance in all forms can be managed with a click of a button. We’re also proud to be promoting a Michigan business that’s clearly on its way to great success.”

The City of Sterling Heights recognizes that not all residents hoping to utilize LawnGuru’s on demand services will be familiar with how to download or sign-up for service. Therefore, the City is hosting a “LawnGuru Sign-Up Fair” on Thursday, December 1, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Senior Center, 40200 Utica Road.

Staff from LawnGuru will be on-site to assist residents in signing up for the service in advance. So, when the first snowstorm hits, residents who have already signed up will be ready to place their order, said Brandon Bertrang from LawnGuru.

“The outdoor service industry has operated archaically since its inception,” Bertrang said. “A municipal partnership furthers our initiative to modernize this space, beginning with our home state of Michigan”

Those with a smartphone or tablet who would like to download the LawnGuru app can simply go to the iTunes or Google Play store and search for the free app to download. Those wishing to place an order via their desktop computer can go to www.sterling  heights.net/lawnguru or www.getlawnguru.com

LawnGuru is also offering a special coupon code for Sterling Heights residents that are new customers to take $15 off their first snow plow or lawn mowing. Residents should simply type in STERLING15OFF in the coupon code area at checkout to take advantage of this discount.

LawnGuru is also seeking Sterling Heights-area snowplow drivers interested in joining its on-demand fleet. To register, visit www.lawnguru.co/providers and click “Join Now” or click here.
