The Sterling Heights Public Library along with the Sterling Heights Historical Commission and the Utica Heritage Association need you to #DigUtica to win the Michigan Digital Newspaper Project grant, which helps communities digitize their local histories by scanning and placing online up to 10,000 pages of a previously microfilmed Michigan newspaper. The Utica Sentinel is one of five finalists competing for this grant!

There are three ways to earn us votes!

1) Mail Postcards between Jan 16 and Jan 28 for 10 votes each postcard.
• Pre-made postcards must have a Michigan theme (Free Upton House postcards available at the library)
• Hand-drawn postcards, from either a child or an adult, must contain something depicting Michigan and will be mailed in bulk from the Library.
• Must include “#DigUtica” in the body of the card.
• Enter as many times as you wish.

2) Tweet #DigUtica between Jan 23 and Jan 28 for 1 vote each tweet.

• Tweet #DigUtica to cast your vote.
• Tweet as many times as you wish.

3) Tweet for best hand-drawn postcards on Jan 26 for 500/250 votes for first/second place.

• Tweet for “Best Refrigerator Art” (youth submissions) and “Most Artistic” (adult submissions).
• Tweet as many times as you wish.


Join us on Saturday, Jan. 14 from 10am-noon to draw a postcards, eat snacks, and support us in the competition!
