[ARCHIVED] City of Sterling Heights Official Statement Regarding Waste Management Recycling Fees

Waste Management has notified residents of an increase in the cost of curbside recycling services in Sterling Heights, which is attributed to economic conditions in the recycling industry.

While Waste Management has the right to adjust the fees charged for this service, the City was not given advance notice of the increase. The City has received many complaints from residents over this increase in fees charged for curbside recycling services. It should be noted that Waste Management’s license to provide curbside recycling services in Sterling Heights expires April 30, 2018. Residents with further questions can call Waste Management Customer Service at 866-797-9018. Green For Life (GFL) will provide curbside recycling services beginning May 1, 2018 at a reduced cost of $57 per year and the service will include every week collection. This amount is locked in until the agreement with GFL expires in 2022.

The City's three recycling drop off centers are still operational and free to all residents.
