Money Smart Week 2017

The library is taking part in a national event called Money Smart Week, a public awareness campaign designed to help consumers better manage their personal finances. This year, Money Smart Week takes place between Apr. 22 and Apr. 29. Take a look at what we’re offering!

Money Smart Storytime - Tuesday, Apr. 25 at 10:30am - Stop in for a traditional children’s activity in the library’s storytime room. This finance-themed event is meant for independent listeners ages 3-5.

Money Smart Toddler Time - Tuesday, Apr. 25 at 10:30am - This high-energy program has something for everyone: singing, dancing, and—of course—stories! This finance-themed program is meant for ages 0-3 with a caregiver.

"LIFE" on Minimum Wage - Tuesday, Apr. 25 at 2:30pm - This hands-on simulation combines aspects of the board game "LIFE" with a practical economics lesson. Each teen will be assigned a minimum wage job and will work towards achieving their Life Goals while dealing with paying bills and all of the "surprises" that life can throw your way! The teen that reaches their goals first will win a prize!

Planning for Retirement - Wednesday, Apr. 26 at 7pm - It’s never too early to plan your retirement. Chris Marchand and Sarah Melia, two financial experts from Raymond James, will discuss spending, healthcare, social security, needs, wants, and risks in an informative presentation. Social Security Seminar - Thursday, Apr. 27 at 10am - Join us for a revealing discussion about Social Security and your retirement. How to Avoid Financial Scams - Thursday, Apr. 27 at 7pm - It seems every day on the news there is a report of another financial scam. Financial expert Rick Bloom, a partner in Bloom Asset Management in Farmington Hills and a financial columnist for the Observer & Eccentric Newspapers, will discuss the variety of scams to be aware of and how you can protect yourself from becoming a victim.
