As part of its Spring Sterling Pride month, the City of Sterling Heights is partnering with Macomb County’s Habitat for Humanity to collect donations for the organization’s local ReStore.
Habitat for Humanity will be on-site taking donations at the Department of Public Works’ “Clean Up Saturdays” on May 6 and May 20 at DPW, located at 7200 18 Mile Rd.
At DPW’s Clean-Up Saturdays, residents can drop off items they wish to dispose of, including tires, paint, old furniture, lumber, loose lawn clippings, dirt, and much more. Clean Up Saturdays are a great opportunity for residents to clean out their garages, basements, and backyards for a fresh start to spring. It’s for this reason Community Relations Director Bridget Kozlowski said partnering with Habitat for Humanity was a wonderful fit.
“In the process of cleaning out a basement or garage, some of the items our residents are getting rid of may still be useable by a person or family in need,” Kozlowski said. “Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore is an excellent resource for the City to partner with and brings even more community value to our Spring Sterling Pride program.”
Habitat for Humanity ReStores are nonprofit home improvement stores and donation centers that sell new and gently used furniture, appliances, home accessories, building materials and more to the public at a fraction of the retail price. ReStores are independently owned and operated by local Habitat for Humanity organizations. Proceeds are used to help build strength, stability, self-reliance and shelter in local communities and around the world. Donations to the ReStore are tax deductible.
Donations the ReStore Accepts:
• Appliances – stoves, refrigerators, microwaves, washers and dryers (less than 10 years)
• Cabinets – Whole kitchen sets, bath vanities, cabinets, countertops and shelving units
• Doors – Door walls with frames, interior/exterior doors, French doors and storm doors
