[ARCHIVED] Sterling Heights Police Department to partner with Subway in "Playin it Safe" program

The Sterling Heights Police Department will be partnering with Subway Restaurants to participate in the “Playin’ it Safe” program this summer.

The Sterling Heights Police Department will be partnering with Subway Restaurants to participate in the “Playin’ it Safe” program this summer.

Throughout the month of July, Sterling Heights police officers will be on the lookout for kids “Playin’ it Safe”. Whether that is wearing a safety helmet while riding a bike, using crosswalks properly/safely, having proper safety equipment on their bicycles or just being safe on playground equipment, that behavior will be watched for and rewarded. Officers will be provided $5.00 gift cards to Subway that they will issue for observing safe and courteous behavior from the community’s youth. The department has approximately 300 cards to be distributed throughout the summer.

“We want to thank Subway for the opportunity to partner with them in this program. It creates a good opportunity for positive interaction between our local officers and kids in our community, said Lt. Dave Smith. "The program will encourage good habits by the kids of our community, and we’re hopeful the interaction will nurture more trusting relationships in the future."
