Sterling Heights Skate Park was recently selected as the winner of the Michigan Concrete Association Award of Excellence in the Special Innovative category.
The Skate Park, which opened in November, beat more than 60 projects submitted for this year’s award program, making the selection very difficult.
Contractor Dorchen/Martin Association LLC was notified last week of the award for their work on their project. Sam Dorchen, Principal of Dorchen/Martin Associates, Inc., thanked Evergreen Skatepark Company and the City of Sterling Heights for their assistance and contributions on the project. Dorchen/Martin will be recognized for the award at a ceremony on Thursday, Feb. 22 at the Michigan Concrete Association 2018 Conference and Workshop.
Sterling Heights Mayor Michael C. Taylor said he’s not surprised the Sterling Heights Skate Park has received such a high accolade.
“Ever since we opened our Skate Park last month, we’ve had kids and adults of all ages out there skating, biking and rollerblading with great joy and enthusiasm,” Taylor said. “The design of our Skate Park is attracting people from all over and we’re constantly hearing how its one of the best in the region. I’m proud of all involved in the design and construction of the Sterling Heights Skate Park for their innovative design. This is just another element of our Recreating Recreation plan that now makes Sterling Heights a stand-out community for recreation.”
