The Sterling Heights Police Department has partnered with the Macomb Intermediate School District to be career coaches for students wishing to get into the field of Law Enforcement.
This program is being operated through the MI Bright Future organization (www.mibrightfuture.org). This organization is responsible for assisting high school students in finding the right career path. MI Bright Future pairs the students with leaders in different careers to help guide and coach them through the process of their chosen career. MI Bright Future is currently working with 363 companies, has 580 career coaches and 2,128 work based learning activities for students.
Law Enforcement has seen a severe decrease in applicants over the past several years, partially due to the lack of positive interaction, and recruitment of today's young adults. The Sterling Heights Police Department wants to help improve the relationship for people who are looking to find that right career. As a young adult there are numerous pressures and decisions that come into play when trying to make important plans for your career path. The Sterling Heights Police Department is volunteering officers from different areas of the department to be a one-on-one coach with students. Our officers will be on a first name basis with each student to have that personal relationship. Sterling Heights officers not only will be career coaches for these students, but mentors while educating them through every step of the process to get into their law enforcement career.
This program is being offered to all students in the Macomb Intermediate School District. If media is wishing any further information or interviews, please contact my office at 586-446-2804.
