The City announced plans for its 50th Anniversary Celebration at the City Council meeting on Tuesday, complete with a stage presentation, a giveaway of more than 2,000 cupcakes, a concert and a fireworks show to close out the evening.
The celebration coincides with the grand re-opening of Dodge Park following months of being closed for the construction of Recreating Recreation amenities and updates.
The City of Sterling Heights officially celebrates 50 years as a City on July 1; however, to accommodate the holiday weekend, the City is planning a celebration for Thursday, June 28. At this event, the City will be inviting all current and former residents, current and former elected officials and City staff and members of the community to join in a celebration of Sterling Heights first 50 years as a City.
This will also be the night dedicated to the grand re-opening of Dodge Park, which is undergoing an extensive renovation under the Recreating Recreation initiative. This special night will culminate with a professional fireworks display immediately following a Music in the Park concert performance by the band, Your Generation.
Amenities in Dodge Park to open on June 28 include: the new splash pad, mini soccer field, volleyball courts, Dodge Park Farmers Market Pavilion and Dodge Park Amphitheatre. The evening will feature the first farmers market and Music in the Park concert of the season for 2018. Details for the evening’s events are broken down by time in the schedule below.
Local financial institution Christian Financial Credit Union has generously committed $10,000 to sponsor the fireworks show, to kick off at 10 p.m. The Christian Financial Credit Union Fireworks Show will be visible from Dodge Park and the City Campus. The show itself will be accompanied by patriotic music, played from the Dodge Park Amphitheatre stage. The Sterling Heights Fire Department has been involved in planning a safe and enjoyable show for the whole family and plans to be on-scene and staged nearby as a precautionary measure.
