Their contributions range from making guests welcome at city festivals, making neighborhoods SHINE, organizing youth sports leagues, to formulating zoning law
-- but no matter the scope, all are crucial to operating an efficient, cost-effective and representative municipal government. City of Sterling Heights volunteers, commissioners, board members and employees join forces in a unique way on a daily basis, styling a local government that is, not only responsive to its residents, but also crafted by its residents. The city recognizes the contributions of all who pitch in annually, and it also wants to salute and pay tribute to those who are dedicated to assisting city government.
In the past year, have you encountered a volunteer or board or commission member who, in your opinion, went “beyond the call of duty” in serving the public? If so, Sterling Heights is seeking input to honor those individuals as outstanding nominees in the city’s annual volunteer recognition program.
Nominations are being accepted for various public service awards to be presented at the end of October. The program recognizes outstanding performance and exemplary service by board and commissioners and volunteers in all aspects of city government. Individuals will be recognized in three categories of service:
• “Board, Commission, Committee of the Year”
• “Board Member, Commissioner or Committee Member of the Year”
• “Volunteer of the Year”
Residents, community leaders, business professionals and city employees can submit nominations for all award categories. Nominations may be sent directly to the Community Relations Department by Monday, October 15th via email to: cityhall@sterling-heights.net.
